Mareeba Parish has a Catholic primary school; St Thomas of Villanova Parish School catering for students from Prep to Year 7. St Stephen’s Catholic College opened in Mareeba in 2006 and caters for students from year 8 through to year 12.

In Mareeba parish we observe our many and varied cultures with Mass celebrations.

The feast of Santo Nino is celebrated on the 3rd Sunday of January at the 10.00am Mass when we assemble with our Philippine community. The focus of the feast is on the child Jesus. After Mass we enjoy the culinary delights of the Philippines, in the covered area of the school.

On the 2nd Sunday of September the feast of Our Lady of the Chain is celebrated with a special Mass at 2.30pm followed by a procession through the streets of Mareeba, afterwards a barbecue, refreshments and entertainment are enjoyed on the school oval culminating with spectacular fireworks.

To celebrate the feast of St Thomas of Villanova, the Augustinian Friends of the parish hold a sausage sizzle after the 10.00am Mass, on the Reconciliation Lawn adjacent to the church, on the Sunday nearest the feast day which is 10 October.

On the last Sunday of October we celebrate the Aboriginal Culture Mass, joining with our Aboriginal community, the Aboriginal and Islander choir from Cairns and the students from Mt St Bernard College, Herberton also being involved through the Mass. After Mass, Morning tea is held on the Reconciliation Lawn adjacent to the church.

On the feast of Christ the King, we hold our annual International Celebration which begins with the 6.00pm Vigil Mass and draws on the various cultures represented in our Parish. Afterwards, we meet under the covered area of the school to share a meal of various traditional ethnic foods, provided by the parishioners typical of their cultural background, followed by various cultural entertainments.
