About Our Parish

Today the parish faces the possibility of a future without a resident priest. With the establishment of a pastoral council, a parish finance committee and a catholic women's group, parishioners are empowered to take on leadership and responsible roles.

Catechists provide catholic religious education for our children in the two state schools. Lay people are working towards establishing pastoral care and a liturgy group.

Feast of the Three Saint

The Feast of the Three Saints is held every year in Silkwood, Australia. St John's Parish works in conjunction with St John's School and the Three Saints Committee. The first weekend in May each year is a well established tradition for the Feast of the Three Saints.  Please visit the website www.feastofthethreesaints.com.au for more information.

Parish History

St John's Parish Silkwood is situated in the southern deanery, mid-way between Innisfail and Tully. Sugar Cane, bananas and cattle makes farming a viable industry, while tourism and fishing are attractions of the area. The parish patron is St John the Evangelist. The founding clergy were Scalabrinians while the Sisters in the parish school were Franciscans. Augustinian priests have served in the parish, in more recent times it has been under the care of Diocesan Clergy.
